West Houston Medical Center's board of trustees evaluates the hospital's delivery of healthcare and helps develop new programs to ensure that our patients receive the most advanced, cost-effective healthcare close to home.

Stephen Mahoney, M.D., Chairman of the Board

Dr. Stephen Mahoney is a dermatologist at West Houston Medical Center.
The long time Houstonian graduated from memorial High School and graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Mahoney received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, and completed his dermatology residency at the University of Texas at Houston. He has received extensive training in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Mahoney has been in private practice at West Houston Dermatology since 1993.

Dr. Mahoney is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He holds an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

He has served on several national dermatology advisory boards, and lectures regionally on a wide range of topics. He is the medical director of cosmetic services at Advanced Aesthetic Institute (AAI), an aesthetic laser leading company.


Jeannie Bollinger, Vice Chairman of the Board

Jeannie is CEO and President of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, a business membership organization with over nine hundred business members representing approximately 50,000 employees in West Houston.

Prior to joining the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, Jeannie served as the Manager of Administration for AquaSource, Inc., a nationwide water utility.

Jeannie holds a master's degree in Counselor Education from Florida International University in Miami and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Pembrook.

She is recognized in Who’s Who – International, American Women, American Business Women, and Southern Women. In 2011 she was recognized by the International Women’s Network on International Women’s Day for her creation of Women Driving Business a unique series of networking events designed exclusively for women business owners and “C” level executives. Currently Jeannie serves on the West Houston Medical Center Board of Directors, Westchase District Advisory Council, Spring Branch ISD Partners in Education Board and the Business Development Advisory Board of American InterContinental University. She was named as one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Women in Houston” by Houston Women Magazine in January of 2014.

Jeannie is married to Erik Hedegaard and has a daughter, named Dylan, and two step children, Erika and Conor.


H.D. Chambers, Board Member

H.D. Chambers has devoted more than 25 years to public education in Texas. Prior to taking on a leadership role as superintendent of schools for Alief ISD in the spring of 2011, H.D. served as superintendent for Stafford Municipal School District.

H.D. began his career in education at Aldine ISD as a teacher and coach. He then served 14 years at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in campus and central administration before joining Stafford in 2006.

H.D. holds leadership positions in the following:

Sarah Cain, Board Member

From a small town in Texas named Columbus, Sarah arrived in Houston in 1981. Starting Sarah’s Florist in 1987, she became one of the top 500 florists worldwide and was chosen the Women of the Year in her industry through the National Association of Professional and Executive Women. Sarah has been in numerous magazines and was featured on the cover of the Small Business Today Houston Magazine. Sarah is founder and chair of the Women Driving Business Series, a series of uniquely inspirational business events intended to provide opportunities to connect and promote key West Houston women business owners and “C” level corporate executives, providing opportunities to network, connect and promote business.


Bao-Quoc Core La, M.D., Board Member

Dr. La immigrated from Vietnam as a child and grew up in Houston.  He graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University and earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his internship and residency at the Memorial – Hermann Hospital in Houston’s Texas Medical Center. Dr. La is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He specializes in routine and high risk obstetrics and minimally invasive gynecological surgeries.  Dr. La speaks Vietnamese, English and can communicate in Spanish.  He is happy to serve the West Houston communities and bring his diverse background to the area.


Julie Baker Finck, Ph.D., Board Member

Julie Baker Finck, Ph.D., President for the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of K-12 education. Prior to this role, Dr. Finck served on the executive leadership team of the Houston Independent School District as Chief Academic Officer and Chief Major Projects Officer. She has served in leadership positions at both a regional and state level in Ohio leading large-scale, education reform initiatives. Prior to her move to Houston, she served as a senior director at Battelle for Kids, a national nonprofit organization.  Dr. Finck began her career as a middle school teacher in Kentucky. She earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in education administration from Ohio State University.


Michael Griffin, Board Member

Michael Griffin is a Partner with SilverOak Financial Group, a financial planning and asset management firm based in Houston. Michael has served a number of civic and charitable organizations, including as a board member of the Houston-West Chamber of Commerce; a board member of the Houston Business and Education Committee; as well as a board member of Camp For All. He resides in Katy with his wife and two children.


Magdy Rizk, M.D., Board Member

Dr. Magdy Rizk is an OB/GYN at West Houston Medical Center.

Dr. Rizk was born in Cairo, Egypt, and received his medical degree from Cairo University, Faculty of Medicine in 1966. After completing his residency in Albany, NY, he practiced in various British hospitals throughout LondonIn 1991, Dr. Rizk brought his skill and expertise to the west Houston community. His practice philosophy is to provide the best and latest medical care in the most compassionate and friendly atmosphere.

Dr. Rizk is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Royal College of OB/GYN London, England; Texas Medical Association and the American Fertility Society.


Darius Wania, M.D., Board Member

Dr. Darius Wania is an Internal Medicine physician at West Houston Medical Center.

Dr. Wania was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and received his medical degree from Dow Medical College in 1988. After completing internships in General Surgery and Internal medicine, Dr. Wania served as Resident Medical Officer at Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi.

In 1992, Dr. Wania arrived in Houston for an externship at Texas Children's Hospital, followed by a residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. Since 1995, Dr. Wania has served the west Houston community at his Alief-based medical clinic.

Dr. Wania's achievements include being elected Chief-of-Staff at West Houston Medical Center in 2007 and Chairman of Medicine at West Houston Medical Center in 2005. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. He is also Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and his practice philosophy is to provide personal patient care with an emphasis on preventative medicine.


Troy Villareal, President, HCA Gulf Coast DivisionTroy A. Villarreal, President, HCA Gulf Coast Division

Troy A. Villarreal joined HCA Gulf Coast Division as President in June 2016 from Medical City Dallas Hospital, where he had been chief executive officer since October 2013. Before that, he was the chief executive officer at The Medical Center of Plano for five years.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Texas A&M University and master’s degrees in health care administration and business administration at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Villarreal has a strong history of community service. He is a graduate of Leadership Plano Class 27 and formerly served on the executive committee board, strategic planning committee, and alumni committee of Leadership Plano. He also has served on the board of the Plano Chamber of Commerce as campaign cabinet chair for Collin County and as a member of the advisory board of the United Way of Greater Dallas.

Since joining HCA in 1993, Villarreal has been responsible for major facility upgrades, significant growth, and increased patient, physician and employee satisfaction at a variety of HCA hospitals.
